Ron Edmondson

Almost from the moment Notre Vista High School opened its doors, the Brave’s Baseball program flourished because of its players and steady leadership. They were annual contenders for league championships and CIF Playoff berths. However, despite that success, it was the run that the Braves program had under Coach Ron Edmondson that truly put them on the Southern California Baseball map.

Edmondson was a staple of the Norte Vista athletic department for 34 years and served as head baseball coach from 1973 to 1994. During those 22 seasons, he compiled a 360-181-2 record. Ron’s teams won 8 League Championships, made 15 CIF playoff appearances and won 4 Riverside Baseball Classic Championships. His teams made it to CIF Finals 4 times, finishing as runner-up in 1980, 1991 and 1993. He led the Braves to the CIF Division 2A in 1988.

A great number of Ron’s players made their way to college rosters and played in the Major Leagues. Most prominent of these were Wayne Housie of the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets and his son, Brian Edmondson of the Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins. Ron coached and assisted in the Riverside County All-Star game on a regular basis and he was responsible for the construction of the first on-campus high school dugouts in the City of Riverside. When he stepped away from Norte Vista Baseball in 1994, his uniform number 9 was retired.

Ron served as a Norte Vista assistant football coach for many years and was the head of the school’s physical education department. Ron was chosen as Athletic Director at La Sierra High School in 2004 and retired in 2006.

In 1995, he was honored by the California Baseball Coaches Association for his stellar career. Ron is a member of the Citrus Belt Area Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame and a 2017 member of the RSHOF Wall of Distinction.
