Ryan Knight

It is doubtful that Riverside has produced a more productive high school running back than Rubidoux High’s Ryan Knight.

Over the span of two years, Ryan led Riverside County in rushing with 624 carries for 4,597 yards and 57 touchdowns and was among the nation’s most well-known prep athletes. In his senior year, he set California’s single-game rushing record with 501 yards on 31 carries to set the single-season record with 2,620 yards (an average of 187 yards per game). Both records have since been broken but his list of accolades will stand the test of time. A consensus All-American by USA Today, Parade Magazine, Scholastic Coach and Adidas in 1983, he was Street and Smith Magazine’s No. 1-ranked football player and was named USA Today’s Offensive Player of the Year. That year, he was the Riverside County Player of the Year, the Sunbelt League Player of the Year and an All-CIF First Team selection.

To date, he is the No. 49-ranked high school running back in MaxPreps’ all-time Top 50 running backs, averaging 7.4 yards per carry and totaling 364 points for his career.

From Rubidoux, Ryan went on to the University of Southern California where he would carry the ball 475 times for 1,826 yards and 17 touchdowns over three seasons. In his career-best game he rushed for 204 yards vs. Cal in 1986.

Now a local youth coach working with the Riverside Parks and Recreation Department and Corona-Norco National Junior Basketball, Ryan has previously served as the head coach of the Corona Chargers youth football team.
